Water's Edge, a magazine focusing on the southeastern coast of the U.S. from Daytona Beach, Florida, to Hilton Head, North Carolina, is "a fresh mix of food, fashion, travel, recreation and home décor," said publisher Carl Cannon, "a rich stew of people, places and events."

Cannon believes that "on the water's edge we don't always walk the same paths. But our surrounding watersthe ocean, rivers, tidal creeks and marshescreate for us a geographical bond that we in this region feel and understand. Water's Edge celebrates that common connection."

The regional Water's Edge premiered in August vying for readers from the national Coastal Living. The publication's first issue promised to attract readers of diverse interests, but similar bank accounts, with features on the home of Jaguars linebacker Kevin Hardy and the history of pirate activity along the southeastern coast. The magazine's departments include "Entertaining," "Naturesport," "Travelist," "Social Scene" and a calendar of special events along the southeast coast.

The typical reader of Water's Edge is between the ages of 35 and 65, married and owns a home valued between $150,000-$200,000. Fifty-five percent of the magazine's readers are women. Eighty-three percent enjoy domestic travel yearly and 92 percent dine out monthly. Fifty-three percent engage in recreational swimming and 20 percent own second homes.

Water's Edge is planning to include a "Bridal Guide," "Symphony Designers' Showhouse" and a "Boat-Buyer's Primer" in 1999.

With initial distribution of 40,000, the publisher plans to increase circulation and exposure by distributing copies with special sections at the Players Championship and the Symphony Guild.

Cannon trusts the regional magazine will make a splash in this year's sea of new publications.
