Although sex magazines didn't claim the top ranks in terms of launches last year, the industry has seen a groundswell of sex magazines featuring younger and younger models, some touting their girls as "barely legal." What makes Cheerleaders and others titles notable are their shameless exploitation. As for Hot Shots and its mini size to fit into your shirt pocket, that's really talking about an audience on-the-go.

Marketing images of increasingly young girls in increasingly explicit poses to attract new readers has been lucrative for sex titles. A growing number of magazines are using this format and specializing in "niche" tastes and fetishes, hence Cheerleaders.

Other types include exceptionally young women, old women, large women, small women, black women, asian women. Titles launched this year include Young and Tight ("they've just turned legal"), Young and Stacked ("celebrating young and healthy beauties") and Big and Black ("erotic ebony action").

Traditional sex magazines are now competing with the Internet, where fewer restrictions mean more freedom to publish more explicit images with barely-of-age girls.

In cyberland, it is harder to catch publications using underage models. Moreover, readers can find a variety of soft-to hard-core sex on the Internetsometimes for freeto satisfy a range of tastes.

At the same time, established magazines like Penthouse have increased their audience by taking a no-holds-barred approach. The magazine is touting its 12 percent circulation increase over the previous year. Are American men's tastes changing, or is the next generation of readers calling the shots?
