Rebecca Kolls is sprouting up everywhere, including the cover of a new magazine that bears her name. She may not be a household name just yet, but you would probably recognize her if you saw her.
"America's favorite TV gardener" has a syndicated garden program titled "Rebecca's Garden" currently seen in more than 150 TV markets covering 90 percent of the U.S. And now comes a magazine by the same name, a book and a complementary website all produced by The Hearst Corporation.
Rebecca's Garden offers "practical step-by-step advice and inspirational ideas on how to achieve a beautiful garden." It promotes the idea of gardening being within everyone's reach. Premiering in April with a newsstand distribution of 300,000 and a cover price of $2.95, the magazine differentiates itself from other titles by showcasing a more relaxed, personal side of gardening.
Five issues are planned for 1999, with editorial being expanded to go beyond the garden and into the home.
The 124-page first edition included departments like "Rebecca's Picks," "Weekend or Less," "Local Color" and "Garden Class." They feature her picks for the latest gadgets and essentials, what you can do in a weekend, gardening in your area and learning how to grow certain plants, respectively.
Features include the best tomatoes, container gardening, landscape roses, instant fountains, attracting butterflies and Rebecca's favorite spring projects.
It seems like this multi-media maven is building her brand by turning her green thumb into a golden touch.
