Cedar Living

Needless to say, magazines are now milking “living” to its extreme. Add the adjective (Southern, Coastal, Cottage, etc.) and you have the magazine. Cedar Living is the latest of the specialty magazines telling you how to live a better life surrounded by cedars. Of course, being of Lebanese origin, I can’t help but agree that cedar living is the best type. Produced by Lindal Cedar Homes, the creators of cedar-built dream houses for over 60 years, Cedar Living creates a clear distinction between a house and a home. The magazine itself mirrors the taste and personality that is evident in the thousands of dream homes across America. In Cedar Living, it’s not just the brick and wood which define a home. It’s also the people inside that make it what it is.

Mom & Baby

No surprise here, especially that it came from the publishers of Fit Pregnancy magazine. The baby is here. The mom is here. After a great, fit pregnancy, we now have mom and the baby to deal with. It’s sort of another link in the life stage of the family establishment. Mom & Baby’s articles are meant to help in the transition from pregnancy to motherhood, offering articles on returning to your pre-pregnancy weight and caring for your young one.

Natural Home & Garden

People used to say a home without a garden is not a home, rather just a dwelling. Natural Home & Garden discovered that fact and added “Garden” to its name and content. This is a good progression for a magazine that preaches the natural way of living. The magazine has assured its readers the qualities of Natural Home will remain, but the editorial roads have just been widened with a new focus on gardens and their importance to the home. Readers will learn just about everything, from how to properly dispose of old computers to hanging your laundry in the backyard. Natural Home & Garden is sure to lead you down the path to a more “soulful, nurturing, natural home.”

Sly

For those who think all magazines are beauty and brains, here comes a muscle and brains magazine, with Sylvester Stallone as its face. The magazine offers a crowded men’s market a healthy recipe of being hip, healthy and proud of it at any age. Sly exhibits a quality many “get fit” magazines are sorely lacking: personality. With a combination of exercise, fashion, wheels and a little sex on the side, Sly sets forth the blueprint for becoming a socially refined, all-around man. To put it in Stallone's words, “I’m 58 and in better shape now than 25 years ago…and you can be too!”

Tango

It takes more than two to tango. In fact, it takes half a million readers to hear the beat of the drum. It’s an ambitious project, trying to reach a dual audience. It’s also a rarely successful concept. I can’t remember a magazine, which went for dual audiences, making it, but I have to at least commend them for their efforts. Whether you’re looking to fall in love or wondering how to balance that love with a career and family, Tango gives a modern-day look at the problems facing relationships. The magazine’s pages are filled with insight into the most common questions facing couples today, along with real-life stories on the trials and joys of love.

Vibe Vixen

This could easily be the first hip hop magazine aimed at women and the hip hop culture they love. The naming of Vixen gives it that edge that is needed to identify the culture, and sometimes keeps the weak at heart away from being vixenated. Readers are treated to beauty secrets, tips and a shopping guide fit for ladies of the hip hop culture. Vixen will be released twice in 2005, with plans to go quarterly in 2006.

Vitals Woman

Imitating the almighty creator himself, the folks at Fairchild saw Vitals Man was lonely and pulled a rib out of him to create Vitals Woman. Now women have a magazine “about life’s great necessities” tailored to them. The magazine walks women through a world where lifestyle and luxury are of utmost importance. Readers of Vitals Woman are sure to find some visual familiarity in this publication, as the design nearly mirrors that of its male counterpart.
