SOUND & VISION

Digital, digital, digital. Today, everything new seems to involve digital electronics. Along with the new digital systems, there is an entire generation of magazines that attempt to explain to their readers the who, what, where, when, why and how of it all. It's been a consistent effort of magazine publishers to produce magazines that explain the setup, use and upgrading of these digital creations like the online auction or the computers themselves.

The digital age has found its way into homes in more forms than just the microwave and the personal computer. It's in the living room with home theater systems. Who can enjoy their movies and music with a jumble of products: the large screen TV, DVD/CD player, center speaker, subwoofers, A/V receiver, video camera and Web TV? Whether your entertainment system is as connected as Bill Gates home or not, few homes don't have a jumble of wires running to and from the television.

Hachette Filipacchi recognized this trend and in January released Stereo Review's Sound & Vision, which merged Video magazine and Stereo Review. The outcome fortunately wasn't a technophile journal like The Absolute Sound, a specialized, extremely high-end audio magazine. With articles on how to create a theater package for the homeowner on a budget to coverage of $4,000 per pair speakers, Sound & Vision is set to become "the" magazine for home theater owners.

Not only does Sound & Vision review the latest components from established companies like Kenwood, Sony, Yamaha and RCA, but it also reviews new titles available on DVD and CD. It takes the reader from building of a home theater to the enjoyment of that system - information people will want considering the high price of most of this technology.
