INCITE VIDEO GAMING and INCITE PC GAMING

Incite magazines hit the stands late this fall with two very well put together gaming titles, Incite Video Gaming and Incite PC Gaming. It is an intelligent split, after all, because in gaming, people tend to focus specifically on one system. Either they play in their living room using the television for the Dreamcast, Playstation and Nintendo systems, or they throw a CD-ROM in a top of the line computer and blast it out that way.

While video gamers could argue all day with PC gamers over which method is better, ultimately its preference, and besides, with all that arguing, neither group would get to play their games or have time to read magazines about their gaming hobby. So, all in all, Incite's split of the category is a wise move.

The Incite magazines and their launches are unique for a few reasons. Just like First for Women, they use the scheme of making the magazines incredibly cheap so they could sway buyers from the already established competition. Incite Video Gaming launched for $.99 in the United States, while Incite PC Gaming, which included a CD-ROM, launched for $1.99.

Speaking of the CD-ROM, Incite's packaging of the CD is notable in itself. Rather than bagging the magazine with a cardboard CD case or taping on a standard CD and jewel box to the cover, Incite designed their cover with heavier material and left a pocket on the inside for the CD to come in. This is not only practical, because it takes away the sheer bulk of a jewel case, but it also allows the cover to be clearly designed, knowing that a CD-ROM wouldn't block the coverlines or artwork.

Besides heavy tips and tricks content, Incite Video Gaming and Incite PC Gaming use some ploys that you don't often see in game magazines. Both editions feature a look at the model that Tomb Raider designers patterned heroine Lara Croft after, and the video gaming title features music star Kid Rock playing a new game for the Sony PlayStation.

Gaming, rock stars, and models who cross the line between beauty and "video-geeky" may just be what the early teenage reader loves. Incite is betting on that at the very least.
