A Good House By Any Font...or Picture
Good Housekeeping is going through some spring-cleaning. The folks at GH are testing a new logo in some areas, a different treatment of the same logo in some other areas, and, if that's not enough, a different image in yet some other areas. Starting to feel confused? Take a deep breath and try to concentrate on what matters to you, the reader: the content of the magazine. Of course, the most amazing aspect is the dog replacing Geena Davis' "A Survivor Story." The star of the cover of GH is not to be seen anywhere on the dog cover, nor is her cover-line story. The funny part is that on page five in their "on the cover" caption, GH refers to Ms. Davis and her make-up and such, while in fact all that's on the cover is the pretty dog. I always wonder, with all the titles on the newsstands, can we really afford to confuse readers with yet one more new thing? Do readers really care whether your logo is upper case or lowercase? To paraphrase President Clinton's famous phrase: It is the content, stupid!
