If The Week is the Rolls-Royce of newsweeklies in terms of words, then First is the Bentley of newsweeklies in terms of pictures. The pages of First are filled with enormous full-color pictures. The designers understand the dictum that a picture is worth a thousand words and rely on the pictures to tell the story of the week’s news. The front half of the magazine is made up of spreads filled with gutter bleeding pictures and terse recaps of the related news story. The rest of the magazine relies heavily on large pictures and art to present the news in less time and less space. The concept is wonderful, but only time will tell if this new model of news presentation can revolutionize the floundering newsweeklies of the world. As for me, I think this is a vision of the future.
