Indy has gone big and is getting bigger, and so has the mens market. Mens magazines market has seen a trend of two camps: small indie mags and large corporate mags. Last month we saw the premiere of Indie Vision, the film magazine, this month it is Indy Mens Magazine. This free magazine is focused mainly at men who live in the Midwest. This is no copycat of Maxim. The magazine covers everything from exercise tips to solutions to business problems to short fiction pieces. Because the magazine is free it relies solely on advertising revenue for its income. The magazine is laced throughout with factoids, interviews, and longer articles as well as plenty of advertising. As the industry becomes increasingly bipolar, it is this type of magazine that has the vision and ability to survive when not supported by a large media corporation.
