Ever since Felix Dennis started Maxim, magazine publishers have been trying to find ways to jump on the mens magazine bandwagon. The latest Maxim impersonator on the newsstands is House of Roses, which, while eye-catching from the cover, shouldnt be judged by that alone. The magazine, having been re-launched after going dark for a few months, maybe should never have come to the light. Subtitled "Universal Entertainment for Men," the content seems so universal that there is no real target audiencesort of an amalgam of anything the editors could think of that men might be interested in. Overall, the magazine is struggling for an identity that for now is too locked on becoming Denniss little brother. | |||
